Science and Innovation Powering a Brighter Future

With the theme "Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation," the 2025 National Science Month celebration provides a vital setting for recognizing and advancing the transformational potential of scientific research. As mankind approaches currently unheard-of potential and difficulties, this theme is especially relevant. It urges a fresh dedication to research, knowledge expansion, and turning ground-breaking findings into workable solutions that can solve difficult global problems and raise everyone's standard of living.

The interaction between science and society will become much more complex and beneficial to both sides in years to come. Scientific discoveries will actively change cultural norms, societal systems, and personal experiences rather than just providing information. Take the quick developments in domains like synthetic biology, and quantum computing, which have the potential to transform entire sectors, redefine human potential, and even change our conception of awareness. In order to resolve ethical issues, provide fair access, and stop the expansion of existing discrimination, such advancements require planned public engagement.

Furthermore, science will be the main force behind addressing the most urgent world issues. Innovative, scientifically based solutions are necessary to address the urgent problems of climate change, sustainable resource management, and the ongoing threat of pandemics. Scientific research will be at the center of establishing a more resilient and sustainable future, from developing cutting-edge renewable energy sources and climate-resilient agriculture to inventing innovative therapeutic therapies and quick diagnostic techniques. This calls for a large investment in basic research as well as a strong pipeline for turning findings into useful applications.

Importantly, the success of "Harnessing the Unknown" depends on developing a scientifically knowledgeable and involved public as much as on scientific advancement. For well-informed decision-making, efficient policy operation, and the wide support of new technologies, public comprehension and confidence in science are essential. In order to demystify complicated ideas, promote critical thinking, and motivate the upcoming generation of innovators and problem-solvers, educational initiatives, citizen science programs, and open communication from the scientific community will be essential. This shared knowledge assures that scientific advancements are consistent with the values and goals of society.

In the end, the theme for National Science Month in 2025 promotes a future in which advancement is encouraged by curiosity, creativity, and teamwork. It emphasizes that genuinely "powering the future" requires an ongoing conversation between the public, businesses, politicians, and scientists. Society may successfully use science and innovation to build a wealthy, just, and sustainable world for future generations if we all embrace the unknown, invest in research, and develop an atmosphere where ethical and scientific integrity are valued highly.

The Excitement and Fun of Intramurals at ISNHS

Intramurals are recreational sports and events that are planned inside a school, college, or university are known as intramurals. Unlike varsity teams, intramurals provide a less competitive environment for trainers, staff, and students to participate in organized sports. Through multiple kinds of sports like basketball, volleyball, soccer, and more, the primary goal is to boost physical fitness, social connection, and stress prevention. Intramural sports improve school spirit and provide a comprehensive educational opportunity by encouraging teamwork, leadership, and an appreciation of community.

Ilocos Sur National High School has intramurals every school year, and for me, it's always the most exciting and fun time. It's a big event where everyone gets really excited.

It all starts with the parade. Watching the athletes, coaches, teachers, girl scouts, boy scouts, and the marching band is such a treat. The muse and escort look stunning, and everyone is so happy and full of energy. The parade, which begins the celebrations, is a lively show of school spirit and creativity. Each event adds to the overall excitement, making the intramurals a truly memorable experience.

After the parade, we immediately headed to the gym because that's where the next events would take place. As the event officially began, we started with a prayer. The SPA students, along with their teacher, led us in singing Lupang Hinirang and ISNHS March. We then listened attentively to the inspiring and motivating messages from our principal and assistant principal. After these encouraging remarks, we excitedly watched the Mr. and Ms. Intramurals competition, where contestants displayed what they are and personality.

In the afternoon, we returned to watch the various sports events. First, we watched the dance sports competition, admiring the dancers' incredible talent and energy. And of course, there are the various other sports events, like basketball, volleyball, badminton, soccer, sepak takraw, futsal, arnis, table tennis, archery, where athletes demonstrate their dedication and sportsmanship.

Intramurals are more than just games; they are a vibrant celebration of school spirit, athletic talent, and community. From the energetic parade to the inspiring messages, the exciting Mr. and Ms. Intramurals competition, and the thrilling sports events, every moment is filled with excitement and unforgettable memories. Intramurals not only promote physical fitness and social connection but also foster teamwork, leadership, and a deep appreciation for our school community. It is still the most eagerly awaited and delightful time of the year for all those participating, and it genuinely captures the essence of ISNHS.

Climate Resilience in the Philippine

The Philippines, a country celebrated for its beauty and rich culture, is also highly susceptible to natural calamities, making climate change adaptation and resilience crucial. Located within the Pacific Ring of Fire and frequently hit by typhoons, Filipinos have a long history of living alongside natural disasters. However, the growing effects of climate change are making these challenges worse, resulting in more frequent and intense weather events that significantly impact lives and livelihoods.

Climate change is a long-term change in the average weather patterns that have come to define Earth's local, regional and global climates. These changes have a broad range of observed effects that are synonymous with the term.

Several factors contribute to the Philippines' vulnerability to climate change. Deforestation, driven by illegal logging and agricultural expansion, reduces the natural capacity to absorb carbon dioxide and increases the risk of landslides and floods. Industrial pollution and unsustainable mining practices further degrade ecosystems, weakening their ability to withstand environmental shocks. The burning of fossil fuels for energy and transportation releases greenhouse gases, exacerbating global warming and driving climate change. These environmental changes disproportionately affect vulnerable communities, particularly those in coastal areas and low-lying regions, who face displacement, food insecurity, and health risks. Despite these difficulties, the Filipino value of "bayanihan"—communal unity and collaboration—is evident. During and after disasters, communities unite together to support one another by offering financial assistance, housing, and emotional support. At the local level, creative approaches to adaptation are taking shape, such strengthening homes, putting early warning systems in place, and encouraging sustainable farming. A strong supporter of aggressive emissions reductions and more environmental support for developing nations, the Philippines is also actively involved in international efforts that address climate change.

Climate change poses a significant threat to the Philippines, but it also presents an opportunity to build a more resilient and sustainable future. By addressing the root causes of environmental degradation and investing in adaptation measures, the Philippines can protect its people, preserve its natural resources, and continue to thrive in the face of adversity. The resilience of the Filipino people, coupled with decisive action, offers hope for a climate-resilient Philippines.
