Christmas is a special time of year, but it’s not just about pretty lights or getting presents. What it’s really about is bringing people close. Families who don’t see each other much make time to meet. Friends get together to eat and talk. Neighbors help one another more than usual. When we’re with people we care about, we feel happy and warm inside, that’s the real point of Christmas.

Being kind and giving to others is also what Christmas means. You don’t need to buy expensive things to show you care. You can bake something nice for a neighbor, help someone carry heavy things, or give away clothes you don’t wear anymore. In many places, people work together to give food to those who are hungry, or toys to kids who don’t have many. Sharing what we have makes us feel good and helps make life better for others.

 

We also have special ways we celebrate every year, and these traditions make Christmas feel like Christmas. Some families put up a tree with shiny things on it. Others make favorite foods like rice cakes or roasted meat. Many people go to church to say thank you and think about what’s important. These old ways connect us to our families and our culture, and make the season feel special.

 

Most of all, Christmas gives us hope. It tells us to be nice to everyone, to forgive people, and to believe that good things will come. Even when life is hard, Christmas makes us feel like better days are ahead. The true essence of Christmas isn’t in what we get or how big our party is, it’s in loving people, being kind, and having hope in our hearts.

A Look at IP Month

 

Every year, we celebrate the Philippines’ National Indigenous Peoples (IP) Month, and this year’s theme is "Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering Indigenous Communities as Bedrock of Sustainable Development. Weaving is a simple but beautiful way to describe what IPs do. They take their old customs, stories, and skills and mix them with new things to build a better tomorrow, just like how a weaver twists different threads to make a strong, pretty cloth. Their culture is like the colorful threads that make our country’s story more interesting and complete.

IP communities are really important for keeping our planet healthy. For many years, they’ve lived in harmony with nature, and their ways of taking care of the land can teach us a lot. They know which trees to plant to keep water clean, which plants grow well together, and how to use resources without wasting them. But too often, they’ve been left out of big decisions, and they’ve lost parts of their land and culture. When we give them the power to lead, they share ideas that help everyone like how their farming methods grow different crops so they don’t go hungry even when the weather is bad. This helps not just their families, but all of us who need food and a healthy environment.

This month is a time to celebrate, but it’s also a time to act. We need to help IPs keep their land safe, save their traditions, get good schools and hospitals, and earn money in ways that don’t hurt their culture. For example, we can buy their handwoven cloth or native products instead of cheap imports this lets them make a living while keeping their skills alive. We can also listen when they talk about their needs and stand with them when they fight for their rights.

When IP communities are strong, they help make a future where we have many different cultures and a healthy earth. That’s how their "weaving of culture" makes life better for all Filipinos. We don’t just get to enjoy their beautiful traditions, we also get a cleaner planet and smarter ways to live. Discovering President Elpidio Quirino

Understanding Children's Month

 Every year, we celebrate National Children's Month to remember how important it is to take care of our kids. This year, the theme is "OSAEC-CSAEM Wakasan: Kaligtasan at Karapatan ng Bata, Ipaglaban!" This means we need to stop online sexual abuse and the making of bad stuff that hurts kids. It's about fighting for their safety and rights! This is super important because kids need our help, especially now that so much of life is online.

 

The government has a big job in keeping kids safe and making sure they're treated right. There are laws like Republic Act No. 7610 and Republic Act No. 9775 that are meant to protect kids from abuse. But, just having laws isn't enough. The government needs to make sure these laws are really followed and that people know about them. It's also important to teach kids, parents, and teachers about the dangers out there and how to report abuse.

 

To really protect our kids, everyone needs to work together. Government, charities, and businesses all have a part to play. We need to share what we know and help each other. This way, we can make sure kids who have been hurt get the help they need, like talking to someone who can help them feel better.

 

We also need to make sure kids have safe places to go and people they can trust. This means creating schools and communities where kids feel loved and protected. It's up to all of us to make sure every child has a chance to grow up happy and healthy. The Beauty of Sto. Domingo

 

 Sto. Domingo in Ilocos Sur is known for its agricultural heritage and as a tourism center for its natural and cultural attractions, including the historic St. Dominic Church, the Dr. Jose Rizal Monument, and natural sites like Sived Beach.

The newly developed tourist destination found in brgy. Sived. It is a six kilometers beach stretch and ideal for surfing. Constructed thereat are the kabuhayan center, fish landing, view deck and the four unit villas.

One of the oldest churches in Ilocos Sur. Known for its Spanish artistic architectural design, this old brick church of Sto. Domingo Parish for Roman Catholic devotees is located east of the Plaza and has a land area of 1.10 hectares. Its bell tower has a base foundation of nine meters and it is here where Diego Silang served as bell ringer.

Travelers passing by notice immediately the landscape and spacious town plaza which is 1.3 hectares in land area. You can sit, relax and enjoy fresh air, beauty and greenery offered by the landscaped plaza. Tennis court, skate park and joggers lane also available thereat.

My Second Quarter

 

Looking back at the first quarter, I can see how much I've changed. I was so nervous and unsure of myself, basically just trying not to get lost. Now that I'm well into the second quarter, I've had some time to reflect on how things are going.

School is way different now compared to the first quarter. In the first quarter, I was just trying to keep up. Everything was so fast, and I was just trying to remember everything. Now, I actually understand some of it! I know how I learn best, and I’m starting to enjoy some of my classes. I’m studying harder and asking for help when I need it. It feels good to actually learn something.

 

Friends are a big part of my life, and that's changed too. At the beginning of the year, I tried to be friends with everyone. But now, I'm closer to a few really good people. We hang out and just talk about life. They make me laugh, and they’re always there for me when I’m having a bad day. I've also learned that it's okay to let go of friendships that aren't working. It's better to have a few true friends than a lot of fake ones.

The second quarter isn't perfect. I still get stressed about tests and homework. Sometimes I feel like I’m not smart enough or good enough. But I'm learning to be kinder to myself. I'm learning that it's okay to make mistakes, as long as I learn from them.

Looking back, the first quarter was about finding my way. The second quarter is about growing and learning. I still have a long way to go, but I'm excited about what the future holds. I'm grateful for my friends, my family, and the opportunity to learn and grow. The second quarter has been a good journey so far, and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Moving on, I will keep trying to do my best, learn from my mistakes, and be thankful for my teachers, friends, and family. This quarter has taught me to keep going even when things are hard and to be kind to myself. I will remember these things for the rest of the year and beyond.
